Did You Know?
That access to good health care can be a real challenge in Swaziland. There are financial and logistical issues that mean not everyone receives the healthcare that they need or have a right to.
The demands on the healthcare system are significant with life expectancy just 49 years and 34 % of young people (aged 15 - 24) testing HIV positive. Tuberculosis is an ongoing problem, as well as cancer, diabetes and hypertension. Despite the availability of Anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and other conventional medical support there are still a significant number of patients who are unwell and therefore unproductive.
SHP has observed from the statistical analysis of the database patient scores that Homeopathic treatment combined with conventional ART has had a synergistic benefit to people living with HIV/AIDS. Patients report improved general well-being, are able to manage drug side effects better and can be more productive in their day to day activities.
This does not just apply to HIV medication, the majority of SHP’s patients are elderly people on other conventional medication and these patients also record improved health and productivity. Many of the rural outreach clinics have been specifically requested by the community leaders as a result of positive feedback from the older members of their community who have experienced the benefits of the treatment.
